NGO- international campaign to ban landmines

The International Campaign to Ban Landmines is committed to an international ban on the use, production, stockpiling, and sale, transfer, or export of antipersonnel landmines. There purpose is to call upon the removal of landmines. There message is clear- “A global ban of landmines”
This is a prime example of how NGO’s have to communicate as for instance this organisation has a clear message to deliver to its publics.
Looking at the website, it is obvious to see how dedicated they are to the campaign. On the home page, they publish the latest campaign news together with a list of current events.
The communication seems very informative, and to some extent, persuasive language is used as the whole initiative of the website is to try and get the organisations publics to join the campaign
Referring to the website, it doesn’t have much information on the organisation itself but has a vast catalogue of information on landmines, and the organisations main targets in trying to ban them. The organisation uses internal methods of communication such as newsletters and regularly updated information on the topic at hand.
Referring to Grunig’s model of communication, the organisation is centred on the public information approach as the mission of the website is to inform and persuade the publics to “join the campaign” (two characteristics of PR)
In some areas, the organisation also uses Grunig model of two way symmetric model of communication as mutual understanding is important.

Private sector- River Island

With other 250 stores operating within the UK, River island is one of the most successful privately owned company, with 50 years of fashion retail experience River Island describes them self as a “dynamic” and “fast working”, they also state on their website that they have a reputation for being very hardworking and determined.

The first thing you notice when you log on to their website is the use of imagery that is meant to catch the consumer’s eye and be and implement to “lure” its publics in.
The main purpose of the website is to sell, however there is a need to look good in order for customers to take notice on what there is to offer.
River Island use Grunig press agency/publicity model, were the truth is no always essential, because profit is involved. Therefore manipulation is used to a certain extent. River island also uses the public information model to let it publics know about the company for instance consumer information is essential for any kind of website
