Ok… so I admit drinking cocktails on Monday night in Falmouth isn’t what they call living on a budget….however what else makes my life complete then a nice cocktail…I can never go wrong when drinking them….I first experienced the delights of a good old cocktail when I was in Kos, Greece with “the girls” that holiday taught me how to drink good and proper. However it was only when we went from bar to bar having the most amazing cocktails (Can I have an orgasm? my friend asking the rather fit bar man was the funniest occasion) that the word alcohol took me into a whole new world. So I thought what better way to waste time and write an interesting feature on the cocktail to post on this blog.

Ok so what is a Cocktail?

Cocktail is a stimulating liquor composed of spirits of any kind, sugar, water, and bitters — it is vulgarly called a bittered sling and is supposed to be an excellent electioneering potion, inasmuch as it renders the heart stout and bold, at the same time that it fuddles the head. It is said, also to be of great use to a
Democratic candidate: because a person, having swallowed a glass of it, is ready to swallow anything else."

So basically a cocktail tastes fucking amazing and is addictive and given half the chance I would sit all night drinking them…. This is in my own little dream world,

The first ever cocktail party was held in 1917 by a Mrs. Julius S. Walsh Jr. of
St. Louis, Missouri. Mrs. Missouri invited 50 guests and the party lasted one hour until lunch was served at 1pm, the site of the first cocktail party also still stands to this day.

Cocktails were originally a morning beverage and the name given to it was a metaphor to the rooster, so Cocktail does mean morning life of day according to Ted Haigh 2004 book “Vintage Spirits and forgotten cocktails”

Another interesting and amusing story-

In the village of
Elmsford in Westchester County, New York a local bar ran out of stirrers and resorted to use a cock's tail feathers to stir the drink.

So to sum up I live in gorgeous Falmouth and drink cocktails as a hobby....not so bad life is it?
